Sociable Weaver

NOTES:

This amazing bird breeds in a colonial nest in desert areas,  up to close on 500 birds.  It has a domed roof and below this has chambers maintained continuously for, in some case, of up to 100 years!  It also uses telephone poles and other man-made structures.

Interestingly, it generally will not breed when rainfall is low (eg below 20mm).  In drought times it is unlikely to breed at all.
